The Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) of 2003 requires
that all DMEPOS providers who wish to participate in the Medicare
program must be successfully accredited by a CMS approved accrediting
organization.
In Fall 2006, The Compliance Team, Inc. was formally granted deemed
authority by the USA’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) as a nationally recognized accrediting body for providers of
all type of Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, Supplies.

ROUND TWO
Suppliers that are interested in participating in the second round
of the competitive bidding program must be aware of two key deadlines:
1. Suppliers must be accredited or have applied for accreditation
by July 21, 2008 in order to submit a bid for the second round of
competitive bidding. (CMS cannot accept a bid from any supplier that
is not accredited or that has not applied for accreditation by July
21, 2008.)
2. Suppliers will need to be accredited to be awarded a contract.
The accreditation deadline for the second round of competitive bidding
is January 14, 2009. Suppliers must be accredited before this date
to be awarded a contract. |

DMEPOS
COMPETITIVE BIDDING
DMEPOS Suppliers who plan to participate in the Medicare Durable Medical
Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive
Bidding Program, one must meet CMS’ supplier Standards and be
accredited by an approved accreditation organization. ->

MANDATORY ACCREDITATION
Providers who wish to enroll or continue their participation in the
Medicare part b program for Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics,
Orthotics, and Supplies (dmepos) must obtain and submit an approved
accreditation to the National Supplier Clearinghouse by September
30, 2009. |

IMPLEMENTATION TIMELINE
Successful implementation of the compliance team’s exemplary
provider™ accreditation program for dmepos takes between 2 and
4 months depending upon the size of the organization and complexity
of products and services offered. |
